I don’t want the world to see me. [October 31st]

Eben was still moving but stopped short when both their heads turned. He couldn’t see well in the dark and she didn’t look particularly scared just ticked off. He clenched his jaw when the man told him to leave because this didn’t concern him. He was damn tired of hearing his opinion didn’t matter. He swallowed and gathered the courage in his gut a little more and kept walking towards them.

“I think I get to decide what concerns me.” He met the girls eyes and the fact that she was still looking at him concentrating and not thankful or scared exactly was confusing and he wasn’t sure what he had walked in on. However he could tell this guy was an asshole. He turned his eyes back to the other guy and stood his ground steady even though he felt a chill on the back of his neck.

“I’ll leave when she tell me to leave.” He said pointing at the blonde girl with the man.

“She doesn’t look happy and that concerns me .”

Roderick moved his neck from the left to the right making a loud clicking noise as if he didn’t quite fit in his skin. He took a deep breath thinking about his options. This stupid human was complicating a simple situation and pissing him off which was not helping the boy’s chances of getting out of this situation.

A cold smirk formed on his face though and he let go of the princess holding up his hands. “Alright cowboy, you got me. I’m scared,” he said walking towards the boy, waving his hands in a mocking manner at him.

Shaylee swallowed hard walking towards Roderick, grabbing his arm. “Roderick, no let him go,” she tried ordering knowing that he could be forced to listen to her brother. He shook her arm free with a violent force that would have broken a normal human’s arm.

“Does it boy?” he asked, practically growling as he stepped as close as physically possible to him. Shaylee stood for a moment not knowing what to do. Her own gifts weren’t back to full force yet so fighting him was out of the question. But she couldn’t let him hurt this poor human either.

“Roderick I mean it,” Shaylee warned, trying to mask the fear in her voice. Roderick reached out and straightened the boy’s jacket around his neck before turning his head back to Shaylee.

“Your highness it would be well advised for you shut the hell up,” Roderick said then turned back to the boy, “now tell me your name and how you’re going to leave this place and not tell a soul of what you’ve seen.”

“I’m stronger than you, little girl.”
“Well, I’m angrier!”

I don’t want the world to see me. [October 31st]

somesayyatroubledboy:

This whole thing didn’t really feel like a move to Eben. Nothing was going to change for him here in Seattle like it might for everyone else. He’d stay in the background in the dark like he was used to. It didn’t bother him too much and at the moment it was a blessing. His parents weren’t asking him if he was okay with the move, they weren’t panicking trying to make sure he understood, they didn’t look at him like they needed his approval.

He’d gone out without saying much of anything. Some of them were on their way to a party. It was Halloween after all and it seemed like some of them had already settled into the move and found people to go out with. He didn’t have very many friends back home he was sure that would hold true here. So he went out on his own. It was late and is his parents weren’t so busy putting on fake smiles he imagined they’d have tried to stop him.

It was probably dangerous to go out this late but he’d never had a fear of night of the dark. He wasn’t one of the kids that needed night lights when he was younger. He’d normally unplug it as soon as one of his parents left the room so he felt at home on the wet dark streets of Seattle. He knew it wasn’t safe but if he was being honest he hoped something might happen to wake him out of the daze he felt.

As he walked by an alley with his hands jammed into his pockets he almost regretted the wish he’d made when he heard a female voice that sounded like it was in pain. He walked faster and peered down the dark alley.

“Hey!” He yelled down into the darkness as he spotted someone in some sort of struggle and he headed that direction without thinking. He pulled his hands out of his sweatshirt to clench his right one into a fist in case something was going on. He’d learn to stand up for himself over the period of school It was always easy to pick a fight with the quiet kid.

Three hours. That was all she got. She’d managed to slip out of her brother’s watchful gaze which was made much easier by the fact that he had strangely disappeared. That sparked Shaylee’s curiosity but she’d have to live without knowing where her older brother disappeared to every once and awhile. He’d left his best men and women to keep a watchful gaze on her knowing that she’d take off the moment she got the chance.

And her chance came. It was brief but she snuck out of her house like she’d done at least a dozen times. She ran quietly down the path to the dense forest her and her family knew all too well. She followed the path into the dark trees until she came upon her favorite spot.

She’d left a mirage for the guards using all of her strength for awhile, but it would buy her some time. She closed her eyes, licked her lips, and touched the hollow part of a tree trunk feeling out for her hiding spot. A smile crossed her lips as she found it and pushed it open slightly. Inside there was a small shopping bag not familiar to her world, but to the world above.

She pulled it out quickly and within five minutes had removed the dress she’d been wearing and put on an outfit much more common above. She pulled her wavy blonde hair back into a messy bun finding she could get around unnoticed that way.

She hid the dress back in the tree and slipped on what she’d heard the humans call ‘heels.’ She then walked the rest of the way to the weak spot on her own sect. Her mind was focused on one thing. Escape. The rest didn’t matter. Her obligations, he own predicted destiny, nothing. All that mattered was getting away and starting new.

Once passed the flimsy barrier, she was suddenly on a dark street surrounded by small human children. A smile instantly crossed her face as they appeared to be dressed in some sort of costume. She tried to remember why any human would do such a silly thing, but nothing crossed her mind.

She kept walking and smiled occasionally at the children she passed. She didn’t have a destination which was part of the beauty of the above. She never had anywhere to be or anywhere to go, she was free. No one referred to her as ‘your highness’ and no one offered their life to please her. She could just be Shaylee and actually discover who that was after all these years.

After three hours of walking she sensed something, she paused once glancing behind her. She spotted him. Cale’s best guard. She cursed to herself debating whether she should try her strength or make a run for it. Running sounded like the better plan. So she ran.

She ran until he used his strength against her in some alley. He pushed her against a wall easily, grinning at her like he’d won a grand prize or something.

“Now now your highness, better you let me take you back than fight me on it,” he cooed at her, mocking her effort. She struggled under his arm which was pinning her to the wall.

“Get off me!” she yelled, struggling further to break free.

“I’m just following orders princess now if you would just quit-” he said until he was cut off by a human’s voice. Both Shaylee and the guard’s heads turned to see a human teenage boy standing there.

Shaylee gulped not wanting anyone to get hurt. She wasn’t sure he could see her in the dark but she studied him as quickly as she could, silently vowing to protect him since anything that happened was her fault for being loud.

“Run home, this does not concern you,” the guard gruffed before turning back to Shaylee. Shaylee kept her eyes peeled on the boy, licking her lips in concentration.
